Velvet Goldmine (1998)

 Velvet Goldmine (1998)

Velvet Goldmine is centred on the glam movement of the early 70s, and most of the people and incidents in the film are loosely based on real people and occurrences. It follows the rise and fall of a Ziggy Stardust-type character, Maxwell Demon (Brian Slade), and those around him, and at the same time, the deep influence he had on a fan's life (Arthur Stuart). Brian Slade retires in a hoax and disappears; a decade later, in the conservative, depressing, Cold War Reagan-era the now reporter Arthur is tasked with finding out what happened to Brian Slade, taking him back to his own past, and exposing a cover-up. The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961)

The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961)

A defecting Soviet scientist is hit by a nuclear explosion near Yucca Flats and roams around as a beast.

The movie was filmed without a soundtrack. Narration, voiceovers and some sound effects were added in post-production. To avoid having to synchronize the audio to the picture, characters only speak when their faces are either off-screen or not clearly visible due to darkness or distance. Likewise, during scenes in which firearms are used, the muzzles of the guns are usually out-of-shot when the weapons are fired. Extensive narration is used in lieu of plot points being conveyed through dialogue.
